Vision for Independence Center was honored to receive a $15,000 donation from the Yakima Lions Club. The generous donation was presented to VIC at their annual fundraiser in October, the Dinner in the Dark, by members of the Yakima Lions Club. The Lions club had received $60,000 from the estate of Joann Mills, and has evenly divided the money to four organizations that serve people with low vision issues. The other recipients are Washington State School for the Blind, Guide Dogs of America and Leader Dogs for the Blind. The club was surprised to receive the large amount of money as they don’t know much about Joann Mills. They speculate that her husband may have been a Lions club member at one time. Lions clubs work worldwide to improve eye care, restore eyesight and prevent blindness.
